A Look Into San Francisco's Parks...

San Francisco prides itself in being a city full of great public places. Be it parks for biking, hiking or simply enjoying breathtaking views, San Francisco got them. In fact, San Francisco is among the top 5 U.S. cities with the best park systems, according to US News, and boasts some of the famous tourist attractions of one of the largest urban parks in the U.S, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It is safe to say that parks are an iconic part of what makes San Francisco different.

Enjoying the multiple parks of San Francisco is one of the most popular pastimes of people living in the city, myself included, which is why I became curious to delve into the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department data about their parks' scores.

My objective is to look at the SF Parks Scores dataset, and be able to answers questions such as:

  • Which parks have the highest scores?
  • Which areas of San Francisco have the most parks and which boast the best parks?
  • Is there a correlation between park size and score?
  • Are parks' scores improving over time? Is there a particular reason for the trend?
  • Does population in the vicinity affect a park's score?
  • How negatively does a neighborhood's crime rate impact a nearby park's score?
