U.S. Air Quality Trends

Welcome!

Theme

The theme of my project is to analyze the air quality of counties in the United States based on hazardous gas and particle pollution from 2010 to 2018. The goal is to produce visualizations that will help you find out how your city measures up when it comes to air pollution and see if it's really safe!

Cori Posadas
Senior computer science major at University of San Francisco.
Estimated to graduate in December 2019.
Interests include web developement and spending time outdoors!

Motivation behind data set:
As I stated above, I love spending time outdoors but towards the end of 2018, California experienced one of its most deadly wildfires which sadly took many lives and severly impacted our national air quality. It also restricted my time to only be spent indoors! So during this time, I found myself checking the air quality index every morning which sparked my interest in analyzing air quality in not just my city, but nationwide. I started to examine what other factors are taken into consideration when calculating the air quality. If there is no smoke in the air, why else would the air quality be reported as "bad"? And just because the air quality is "good", is it still safe? I'm here to find out!
